Carefully clean the shaft and measure the diameter of an undamaged section of the seal counterface at three different points. Calculate the arithmetic mean of these measurements to determine the required sleeve size.
If the mean diameter falls within the permissible range listed in the product table for the shaft diameter, the SKF SPEEDI-SLEEVE will have a tight fit without the need for adhesive.
Ensure that the sleeve is positioned to cover the worn seal area, not just flush with the end of the shaft. Shallow wear grooves may not require filling, but for deeper scores, use a powdered metal epoxy filler before installing the sleeve.
The flange end of the sleeve should be installed first, followed by the installation tool. Gently tap the center of the tool until the sleeve covers the worn seal surface.
